Yes. Trauma-focused therapies are among the most researched and effective approaches in mental health treatment.
When a person experiences trauma or overwhelming life events, the brain and nervous system can store those experiences in a way that continues to trigger emotional or physical reactions long after the event has passed.
Trauma therapy helps the brain process those experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming or intrusive.
Evidence-based trauma therapies such as:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Brainspotting
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
have been shown to help reduce symptoms such as:
anxiety and panic
intrusive memories
emotional triggers
shame and negative self-beliefs
nervous system dysregulation
Many people notice improvements in their emotional resilience, relationships, and overall sense of well-being after working through trauma in therapy.
At Adams Clinical Services, trauma therapy is tailored to each individual using specialized approaches designed to support deep and lasting healing.
-
The length of trauma therapy varies depending on each person’s experiences, goals, and nervous system readiness for processing.
Some individuals notice meaningful improvements in just a few sessions, especially when using specialized trauma therapies such as EMDR, Brainspotting, or Accelerated Resolution Therapy.
Others may benefit from a longer therapeutic process that focuses on:
building emotional regulation skills
strengthening coping strategies
processing multiple traumatic experiences
addressing long-standing patterns or beliefs
Trauma healing is not about rushing the process. Instead, therapy moves at a pace that allows the brain and nervous system to feel safe while gradually resolving distressing experiences.
Some clients choose to combine traditional therapy with trauma therapy intensives, which can help accelerate progress when appropriate.
At Adams Clinical Services, therapy is tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals to support meaningful and lasting healing.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based trauma therapy that helps the brain process and heal from distressing experiences that may still feel “stuck” in the nervous system.
During EMDR therapy, a therapist guides you through a structured process while using bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones. This process helps the brain reprocess painful memories so they become less emotionally overwhelming.
Many people find that EMDR helps reduce symptoms such as:
intrusive memories
anxiety and panic
trauma triggers
negative beliefs about themselves
emotional reactivity
EMDR therapy is widely used for treating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, grief, and distressing life experiences. Many clients report feeling relief faster than with traditional talk therapy alone.

How does Brainspotting therapy work?
Brainspotting is a powerful trauma therapy that helps identify and process experiences that may be stored deep in the brain and body.
Brainspotting works on the idea that where you look affects how you feel. During a session, the therapist helps you find a specific eye position, called a brainspot, that is connected to an emotional or traumatic experience. When that spot is activated, the brain can begin to process and release unresolved material.
Brainspotting can help access areas of the brain involved in:
emotional regulation
trauma processing
nervous system responses
stored body memories
This therapy is often helpful for people who feel like they understand their experiences logically but still feel emotionally stuck.
Brainspotting may be beneficial for:
trauma and PTSD
anxiety and stress
grief and loss
performance blocks
overwhelming life experiences
At Adams Clinical Services, Brainspotting therapy is offered in Rock Hill, SC, with virtual sessions available across South Carolina and North Carolina.
